Dr. Jim Howell returns to Greenville to open oral and facial surgery practice

Dr. Howell will bring high quality of oral surgery to his hometown

Charlotte, N.C., August 10, 2017. – Dr. Jim Howell, a native of Greenville, is returning home to open an office of Carolinas Center for Oral & Facial Surgery(CCOFS) in August. He’s proud to bring his services and a high standard of care to his hometown.

“It’s exciting to come back to my hometown with a practice carrying a higher level of prestige,” says Dr. Howell. “From a practice standpoint, my patients will receive the full support and expertise our nationally recognized surgeons in this practice.”

The Greenville location will be a new 8,600 SF state-of-the-art facility located in Legacy Square, the 13-acre neighborhood town center within Verdae. The location is central to the greater Greenville area, close to two major thoroughfares in the city, retailers, hospitals and Interstate 85.

Dr. Howell is excited to move back home with his wife and two sets of twins to provide quality care for his community. The fellowship-trained doctor and Clemson University graduate focuses on wisdom teeth removal, extractions, dental implants, bone grafting, orthognathic surgery (corrective jaw surgery), treatment of facial trauma, cleft lip/palate surgery and TMJ reconstruction. “The fellowship experience sets us apart as a full scope oral surgery practice,” says Howell. “This philosophy and the way we practice surgery helps us treat all types of surgical issues.”

Having CCOFS’ state-of-art technology in Greenville will benefit local residents. The practice pioneered The Charlotte Method, a virtual surgical planning system used in certain jaw surgeries. The Method begins with a CT scan of the patient, creating a digital record of the facial skeleton. This record provides CCOFS’ doctors with an animated guide of how to complete the surgery before stepping into the operating room. This process is both cost and time saving generally less invasive surgery for the patient, as well as, allowing the patient to view how they will appear afterwards.

Today, CCOFS is the largest oral and maxillofacial-focused practice in the Carolinas and one of the largest in the country. In 2016, the practice completed more than 300 jaw surgeries, including correcting overbites, underbites and sleep apnea corrections. Their CCOFS surgery team includes twelve (12) full and part-time oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Each of these surgeons is board-certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and are fellows of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

CCOFS also has the only accredited private practice cleft palate team in contrast to state-operated or university hospitals such as: Wake Forest University; Duke University; University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; Medical University of South Carolina; and University of South Carolina. CCOFS is also one of the few practices in the Carolinas offering total joint replacement surgeries. As for educational training, CCOFS started a private fellowship program in 2007 that focuses on Orthognathic, TMJ and reconstruction surgeries.

The expansion into Greenville will make it easier for patients to access world-class oral and maxillofacial care, and CCOFS hopes that having this facility nearby will encourage current or prospective patients to take charge of their oral health.

“Dr. Howell and our entire team is looking forward to being an active member of the Greenville community,” says Danny Ketola, Business Manager for CCOFS’ six current offices. “Our new patients will have many options for oral surgery procedures right in their own backyard, including wisdom teeth removal.”

To schedule an appointment, patients can call (864) 751-9972. The address of the Greenville office is 280 Rocky Slope Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
