Greenville, S.C. retirement community invests in combination of clinical and holistic wellness programs to improve health outcomes for older adults.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 12, 2012) - Cascades Verdae, a retirement community located in Greenville, S.C., announced today that the community is expanding to add a fully integrated Wellness Department managed by Wellness Director Aleksandra Makuch. In her new position, she will oversee the newly created department which houses the community’s nationally recognized wellness program.

Executive Director Karen Nichols says the community will hire an additional wellness associate and add new programs for Members into the existing schedule to boost participation during the week and on weekends. In addition, Makuch will work closely with Genesis, the community’s rehabilitation services provider to develop programming for residents in skilled nursing.

Nichols says the expansion is the result of growing demand for solutions to high-cost clinical care which older adults may need later in life.

“Our programs are proven to substantially improve the quality and length of our members’ lives,” she said. “For example, one of our aquatic therapy programs has been able to improve the rate of bone growth by 50% in residents who were non-weight bearing when they were admitted to our community. That is a significant outcome because it means we can potentially get these residents back on their feet and into their home in an expedited fashion.”

Cascades Verdae provides skilled nursing, assisted living and Alzheimer’s care services in addition to independent living options. Nichols says the Wellness Department will provide programming appropriate for older adults with varying degree of needs.

In addition to the aquatic therapy program, Wellness Director Makuch will oversee the expansion of additional targeted wellness programs in healthcare including interventions focused on improving outcomes associated with fractures or orthopedic replacements, heart failure, C.O.P.D., diabetes, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease, to name a few.

She will also continue to emphasize and create prevention-oriented programming for the community’s independent living members who want to improve their health while also reducing their chances of suffering a negative health event in the future.

New wellness facility in Legacy Square will be designed for members who want to get in, get out and get fit.

[Greenville, SC, March 20, 2012] The YMCA of Greenville is pleased to announce plans to open the first “Express Y” facility in the Upstate, further expanding services within the City of Greenville. A lease agreement has been signed for 6,000 square feet of ground level space within the phase one development of Legacy Square at Verdae.  Facing Legacy Park, the 20-acre central park at Verdae, the new Express Y will offer cardio and strength training equipment, group exercise classes and entice members to enjoy both indoor and outdoor exercise.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the Y to expand our mission to this growing area of Greenville,” explained Scot Baddley, YMCA of Greenville president and CEO. “It is especially relevant for us to partner with a community like Verdae that is, like the Y, focused on an active, healthy-living environment. Verdae residents enjoy walking and bike paths, numerous green spaces, and now, an innovative Express YMCA on location. It just makes sense for the Y to be there. However, you don’t have to be a Verdae resident to be a member of the Y Express. And, as with all Y locations, there is financial assistance available.”

Express Y facilities have become popular across the nation in growing metropolitan areas like Charlotte, NC and Austin, TX. The concept delivers a facility with programs to meet a variety of interests and needs, but mostly to offer members a convenient, quick and complete workout. 

“The addition of an Express Y at Verdae is exciting,” stated Rick Sumerel, Verdae Development president and COO. “The YMCA of Greenville has been a proven leader in health and wellness. Prior to the decision to add this location, the Y commissioned an impact study that took into account the potential market for Y services in the Verdae community and surrounding area. The study indicated that there was more than sufficient interest in membership in the area to justify the new outlet. With phase one of Legacy Square under construction now, the new Y facility is on course to open before the end of 2012. Options for membership and details for hours of operation have not been finalized.

Greenville SC  (Friday, February 10, 2012)  –  Holliday Dental, PA - nearing its 30^th year as a dental health and esthetic restorative practice in Greenville, SC - broke ground today on its new dental office in Legacy Square at Verdae.  Owned and operated by Dr. Joseph Holliday, the dental practice with nine employees will move from Antrim Drive to its new 5400 sq. ft. facility following completion of construction in August. The new office doubles the size of the current space and is specifically designed to optimize patient care and experience.

 ”This is an exciting day,” said Dr. Holliday. “After several years of planning, we’re ready to launch construction on a truly fantastic space in this beautiful and convenient location.  Having outgrown our current office, this new facility allows us to expand and upgrade in ways that will serve our growing patient base in the best way possible.  McMillan Pazdan Smith and Patterson Dental Company have done an incredible job working with us to create an innovative design and we’re pleased to have Cunningham Waters oversee construction of our unique building.”

Enhancements for the new office include more comfortable patient rooms with personal audio and video entertainment options, Wi-Fi, and large windows -many of which overlook 20 acres of Legacy Park.  A dental suite, complete with a private sitting area and technology access, has been added to accommodate patients during lengthy procedures.  Technical and equipment upgrades include:  Digital X-rays for more accurate diagnosis and treatment, digital intra-oral visual imaging and decay detection, Invisalign computerized orthodontic treatment, the latest Cerec Design and Milling technology for same day delivery of Crowns and veneers, an ultra-modern Sterilization Center and a state of the art Lab for the in-house manufacture of various dental appliances including sleep appliances as well as Implant restorations.  The two-story structure will also comprise a rooftop terrace suited for training and special events.

Construction of the Holliday Dental office building is taking place at the same time as two other new buildings are erected in phase one of Legacy Square. The new neighborhood-scaled town center is located off of Rocky Slope Road within the Verdae development.

Verdae announces new floor plans, breaks ground on two available homes in Ruskin Square 

Ruskin Square at Hollingsworth Park, located just off Verdae Boulevard in the city of Greenville, is buzzing with new home construction activity. A flavorful blend of classic architecture, pedestrian and bike-friendly streets and a 20-acre park amenity are just a few attractive qualities that are converting home buyers to residents.  

Designed as a custom-home community, Ruskin Square offers buyers the chance to build their dream home in a village-style setting. For those who prefer a simplified construction process, Verdae Development offers a group of pre-approved and pre-priced land and home packages.
