New Restaurant Coming to Legacy Square
Greenville, SC—Verdae Development announced today that Jason and Julia Scholz, owners of Simpsonville-based Stella’s Southern Bistro, will expand by opening their second restaurant location this winter at Legacy Square within Verdae (340 Rocky Slope Road, Suite 100). The new restaurant will be named Stella’s Southern Brasserie—(pronounced bras-uh-ree)—highlighting the new restaurant’s concept for an expanded bar, community seating, and menu that includes small plate options. Stella’s Southern Brasserie will be the first restaurant to open in the Legacy Square town center, adjacent to Legacy Park and in the center of the 300-acre Hollingsworth Park residential community.
“It’s no secret that residents of the Hollingsworth Park community have been waiting for this highly anticipated announcement,” said Rick Sumerel, president and COO of Verdae Development. “Their enthusiasm and patience is about to be significantly rewarded. Jason and Julia have been exceptional to work with during the entire planning process, and their commitment to deliver quality—coupled with their desire to be an integral part of the community—will be a home run for everyone involved.”
The husband-wife team share more than 45 years of combined experience in the restaurant industry, both most recently leaving Greenville’s High Cotton restaurant location to open Stella’s Southern Bistro in 2008. Their commitment to source as many local ingredients as possible and support local farmers has created a loyal following and solid success. Julia and Jason are quick to credit their hospitality-driven and knowledgeable staff for their positive growth. Both are eager to add to their restaurant family and bring their vision to Verdae.
“Jason and I have been visiting Legacy Park with our daughters for years, and have watched the area expand exponentially,” said Julia, president and co-owner of Stella’s. “It was clear to us that Verdae is the perfect place for us to expand, allowing us to embrace the neighboring businesses, residents, and area visitors. We want our second Stella’s location to become a natural gathering spot for the community, as well as an excellent destination for a quality meal in a relaxed atmosphere.”
The new location will be approximately 6000 sf and plans to accommodate more than 150, including outdoor seating. Stella’s Southern Brasserie will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner (Tuesday-Saturday), and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant will also showcase an expanded coffee program, outdoor dining, and a private dining area that opens to the parkside patio. A market/retail area will offer on-the-go provisions.
“Bringing Stella’s to Legacy Square will provide us with so many new opportunities,” said chef/owner Jason Scholz. “The additional space and proximity to this beautiful area of the city creates another dining destination for our established customers, along with giving us the ability to introduce many new guests to a menu of farm fresh, local cuisine options that we’ve become known for.”
The project team is targeting an opening date of February 1, 2017. McMillan Pazdan Smith is heading up architectural design for the new space. B.Berry Interiors of Charleston is providing interior design services. Mitchell Contract Interiors is the general contractor for the project.
